World Cord Blood Day 2019: a resounding success!

For the third consecutive year, Quick was the official sponsor of World Cord Blood Day (WCBD). And, as with previous years, this year’s program held on November 15th was an extremely successful one – both in celebrating 30+ years of life-saving blood transplants and helping expectant parents and healthcare providers learn all about the latest innovative research in this field.

Cord blood stem cells are currently used to treat 80+ different life-threatening diseases and are also proving critical to new areas of regenerative medicine. However, there is a lack of awareness and education about what cord blood can do. And that’s why we need World Cord Blood Day – so doctors and parents have the most up-to-date information.

Here’s a look at WCBD’s success by the numbers:

  • 60+ official WCBD events took place around the world.
  • 46 countries either hosted or attended a WCBD event.
  • 100+ organizations joined or hosted a WCBD event.
  • There were 2,000+ WCBD participants – including those who attended an event in person and those who joined the Virtual Conference, in which my colleague Monroe Burgess and I participated. We were interviewed by Save the Cord Foundation’s Charis Ober, about what’s involved to ensure the safe transportation of cord blood and derivative therapies.

In addition to the events, there was also extensive social media activity on WCBD – including hundreds of Twitter conversations taking place globally, all using the event’s #WorldCordBloodDay and #WCBD19 hashtags.

Quick was proud to be a part of this important event and have the opportunity to share all about the role we play in blood and blood products’ logistics – and how Quick’s experience and expertise supports the life-saving work of companies in this field.
